Job Purpose:
The role involves assisting in the effective implementation of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures within the workplace, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. This includes actively promoting and enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular risk assessments, and ensuring the proper training of employees on HSE standards. Additionally, the role is responsible for ensuring the availability, functionality, and reliability of all firefighting equipment, including extinguishers, hoses, and alarms. Regular inspections, maintenance, and updates of safety equipment are carried out to guarantee their readiness in case of emergencies. The overall goal is to foster a culture of safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility while minimizing potential hazards and risks in the workplace.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the conducting of an HSE inspection or audit to ensure compliance with QHSE standards.
- Conduct toolbox talks as requested by the area owner
- Respond immediately to HSE incidents using the established emergency communication channels and protocols, to minimize damages as much as possible
- Conduct routine and visual HSE inspections to immediately correct any discrepancies
- Ensure that observations and findings are communicated properly
- Inspect fire extinguishers and first aid boxes on a monthly basis.
- Ensure that Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) is implemented effectively in the relevant department
- Respond to any HSE incident/accident and disseminate information to all concerned department personnel.
- Measures air and noise pollution levels
- Check and inspect firefighting equipment regularly and report immediately if one of the items is not working properly
- Adhere to Kuwait Steel policies, the HSE Management System, and the Integrated Management System (ISO 9001/14001/45001).
- Implement Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) plans in the workplace, ensuring compliance with HSE standards, company policies, national regulations, and legal requirements.
- Achieve and sustain the company’s HS&E targets and objectives, while safeguarding the lives of Kuwait Steel employees.
- Prepare and monitor Toolbox Talks (TBT) to ensure continuous safety awareness and training.
- Oversee all activities of the HSE officer within the Steel Complex, ensuring full compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in science/engineering or equivalent with additional professional qualifications in HSE Management and Fire & Safety Management Systems.
Preferred Experience:
- Completing a professional certification program in health and safety management can give an advantage.
- A previous worked experience in Steel Industry in a related position can also give an advantage.
